Financial Incentives

There are financial incentives available for a variety of energy efficient upgrades to your facilities, and for environment-related projects and improvements that can save your business thousands of dollars in costs while contributing to a healthier environment.

Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance

Accelerated Capital Cost Allowance for Efficient and Renewable Energy Generation Equipment

To provide an accelerated rate of write-off available to private companies for certain capital expenditures on equipment that is designed to produce energy in a more efficient way or to produce energy from alternative renewable sources.

Visit Industry Canada for details.

Biofuels

The ecoENERGY for Biofuels program supports the production of renewable alternatives to gasoline and diesel and encourages the development of a competitive domestic industry for renewable fuels. The program provides an operating incentive to facilities that produce renewable alternatives to gasoline and diesel in Canada.

For the first three years, the incentive rates will be up to the maximum of $0.10/L for renewable alternatives to gasoline and up to the maximum of $0.20/L for renewable alternatives to diesel. These maximum rates will decline after three years as detailed in Table 1.

Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program (ERIP)

The Ontario Power Authority’s Electricity Retrofit Incentive Program is designed to remove older, inefficient lighting, motors, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning), and other inefficient equipment and systems.

ERIP offers two tracks for those considering retrofits. The first, a prescriptive track, offers in-depth product listings and the relative savings per item. Should a participant wish to make retrofits not included in the lists for the prescriptive track, a custom track also exists.

Enbridge Gas Distribution New Building Construction Program

Building in efficiency during early design stages, whether commercial, institutional or multi-family use is the most cost-effective way to ensure ongoing savings and environmental benefits.

The program provides an incentive for energy savings that will result from adding natural gas efficiency measures to a new building design. Enbridge will pay $0.075/m3 of projected annual natural gas savings to a maximum of $15,000.

Download the New Building Construction Program brochure, or contact by Email or call (866) 844-9994 for details.

Enbridge Gas Distribution’s Design Assistance Program
The best buildings result from a design process that considers energy and environmental efficiency from the beginning. The Design Assistance Program™ (DAP™) has been created to encourage such a process. It offers applicants a fixed DAP™ incentive of $4,000 to undertake design activities aimed at improving a building’s energy and environmental performance – whether it is a new building, an addition to an existing building or a major renovation.

Energy Retrofits

ecoENERGY Retrofit Incentive for Buildings

Owners of Small and Medium-sized Buildings

Receive up to $10 per gigajoule of estimated energy savings, 25 percent of eligible project costs or $50,000 per project.

When applying, you will need to provide a pre-project energy audit of your buildings.
Important note: Please do not start the retrofit project or incur eligible costs until you receive written approval from Natural Resources Canada.

Visit Natural Resources Canada Office of Energy Efficiency or call (877) 360-5500 for more details.

ecoENERGY Retrofit Incentive for Industry (CIPEC)

Provides a financial incentive of up to 25 percent of project costs to a maximum of $50,000 per application and $250,000 per corporate entity to help small- and medium-sized industrial facilities implement energy-saving projects.

Natural Resources Canada's (NRCan's) ecoENERGY Retrofit program is designed to help industrial facilities overcome financial barriers to improving the energy efficiency of their operations.

Freight Technology

Freight Technology Incentives Program

Provides cost-shared funding to companies and non-profit organizations in freight transportation in air, marine, rail and road to help them to purchase and install proven emission-reducing technologies.

Projects can be funded to cover a maximum of:

50% of project total eligible costs
$500,000 over a two-year period

The program requires a minimum funding request of $25,000 to be considered for funding.

Industry Assessment

ecoENERGY for Industry Assessment Incentives (CIPEC)

Offers financial incentives to help industrial companies perform two types of assessments of their operations to optimize their processes, reduce operating costs, become more competitive and reduce greenhouse gases (GHGs) and air pollution – all by using energy more efficiently.

Process Integration (PI) studies are powerful analytical tools that go beyond conventional energy audits to systematically optimize interactions between systems in industrial facilities that consume significant amounts of energy.

Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the cost of a PI study, to a maximum of $50,000.

Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) studies go beyond conventional physical studies to analyze fluid flow and heat transfer in processes. Through computer modelling, CFD  studies can be used to optimize system design and operation parameters for the efficient use of energy.
Funding is available for up to 50 percent of the cost of a CFD  study, to a maximum of $30,000.
